It’s something that undoubtedly happens on a daily basis, and most of us probably never give it a second thought – but who is there to help when a homeless woman goes into labour? In the case of one unidentified woman in San Francisco this week, it was a bike messenger.

According to reports, the woman gave birth outside of a store on Monday, but no one came over to help her – until, of course, a bike messenger spotted the scene and came to her rescue.

Speaking to local media, bystanders have hailed the man as a ‘hero’ while recalling the dramatic scene.

“I came out just after the baby hit the ground. It was just this purple little thing. I watched the guy jump off his bike, take off his shirt and wrap it around the kid and cradle the baby,” said one on-looker, named Ayrron Comini.

While the mother herself was described as being ‘in shock’, Comini observed that everyone else in the vicinity was ‘standoffish’ when they saw her.

After the bike messenger’s initial action, members of the police and fire departments arrived on the scene to care for the woman and her child. The woman reportedly said that she didn’t know she was pregnant, and the baby was born premature at 32 weeks.

While the name of the heroic bike messenger has not been discovered yet, locals are making every effort to find out who he was.

We hope this woman and her child will get the care they need.
