A gynaecological condition is one which affects the female reproductive organs, i.e. the breasts, abdominal and pelvic organs. Most women will likely experience gynaecological problems at some stage of their lives, and while some are minor and easily treatable, others can have a major impact on your health and fertility.

Here are some of the most common gynaecological problems.

1. Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs where tissue that usually grows inside of the uterus, grows outside of it. The typical symptoms of the condition are pelvic pain and infertility, while pain during sex is also common. Some women don’t show or experience any symptoms however, which makes it so important to attend regular health screenings.

2. Cervical cancer

Cervical cancer develops from the growth of abnormal cells in the cervix. While women typically won’t show symptoms early on, further development of the condition can result in bleeding, pain during sex, and general pelvic pain.

3. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, or PID, occurs where the uterus, fallopian tubes or ovaries are infected. PID is often symptomless, but where symptoms are present, women can experience lower abdominal pain, vaginal discharge, fever, irregular periods, fever, and pain during urination and sex.

4. Dyspareunia

Dyspareunia is essentially painful intercourse. The cause of dyspareunia can medical or psychological, with anything from tissue injury and hormonal imbalances to emotional or psychological factors listed as causal factors. Subsequently, treatment will focus on the physical or psychological root of the problem.

5. Breast cancer

Typical signs that women should look out for include lumps, dimpling, changes in breast shape, and breast discharge. Diagnosis is made through a biopsy, and it is advised that you consult with your doctor about when to start and how often to have a mammogram.
