How long should I cook chicken?

Cooking chicken can sometimes be confusing, especially with so many varieties of ovens available. Cooking time will vary on the size of the chicken so here are two tables to make your life a little easier. The first table applies to whole chicken and the second table is for chicken portions.

Weigh your chicken after preparation and before placing in the oven. This ensures the optimum cooking time. The cooking times of the whole chicken is calculated by allowing 20 minutes per 454g/1lb plus 20 minutes extra. The chicken portion time calculations are based on the averaged sized portions, allowing extra time if the portion is larger. Always make sure your chicken is fully cooked before serving.
