An investigation is underway after a couple visiting their newborn son found his mouth had been taped shut.

Ryan Noval and his partner Jasmine Badocdoc said they found their five-day-old son Yohannes Noval's lips taped shut as he slept at a nursery in a private maternity hospital in the Philippines.

They said when they asked a nurse about it, they were told it was because ‘the baby was crying too loudly’.

When Jasmine expressed her outrage at the incident, and asked that the tape be removed, the mum was told to take it of herself.

The couple said that when a nurse finally stepped in and took the tape off the baby herself, the skin on his little upper lip was pulled off in the process.

“Babies cry because of two reasons, either they are hungry or feel discomfort. If my son was noisy then they can transfer him to an isolation room,” she said. “What if my son suffocated?”

The little boy’s furious father posted several images of his newborn son with the tape over his mouth to Facebook, writing, “Meet my son Yohannes Noval. He cannot speak about his horrific experience from the attending nurse's hands inside Maternity Hospital's nursery.....so we have to speak out for him.”

“If you think your new born babies are safe, think again. Your babies could be silent victims and you will never really know about it!” added the dad.

The heartbreaking pictures of the little boy have now gone viral, as have the parent's protests at how their baby was treated.

The new parents are now seeking legal advice to deal with the incident.
