From healthy hearts to happy outlooks, dietary fibre helps keep our digestive tract in good working order, can help reduce high blood cholesterol and keep blood sugar levels stable.
Yet in spite of the strong evidence of the benefits of fibre to overall health, 80% of people don’t get enough fibre, a trend that often starts in childhood and carries through to our adult life.

But what, exactly, is enough?
The Guideline Daily amount for fibre is based on gender and age, with a goal of 25g for adults and 15g for children aged between 5-10 years. And though at first glance these recommendations would seem simple to achieve, the truth is that most of us need to increase our current fibre intake by about 50% in order to reach these healthful targets. To put these recommended daily amounts into perspective, one bowl (30g) of Kellogg’s Bran Flakes provides 4.5g fibre. A great start to be sure, but is only 18% of the GDA for an adult. That’s why including a balanced source of fibre throughout the day is important to overall health and wellness.

*Wheat bran fibre contributes to an acceleration of intestinal transit. Aim for at least 10g of wheat bran fibre per day. All products in the All-Bran range are high in wheat bran fibre.

Wholegrains for health
For the benefit of your family, you know that we all need to eat less fat, salt and sugar, while enjoying more fruits and vegetables. But did you know we should also be eating more wholegrain foods?

What are wholegrains?
Certain grains like wheat, barley, rye and oats, are made up of three parts: the endosperm, the bran and the germ. As the name suggests, wholegrain foods are ones that contain all three parts of the grain. Together, these parts work to provide a rich source of dietary fibre, ‘healthy’ fats, B vitamins and vitamin E. Important nutrients that are essential to good health.

Out of the many ways to enjoy all of the health benefits of wholegrains, wholegrain cereals are a convenient and nourishing choice. Fortunately, Kellogg’s has a number of ready-to-eat wholegrains cereals, including Bran Flakes, Optivita, Sultana Bran, Raisin Wheats, Frosted Wheats, Just Right, Honey Loops, Fruit ‘n’ Fibre, Start, Mini Max Original and Mini Max Chocolate. So you have more ways to give your family fibre and wholegrains that they need, together with the great Kellogg’s taste they love.
