Babies travelling in cars do not often get cold. In modern cars, the climate controls are sophisticated enough to ensure that the child is not exposed to cold draughts while in a car seat. Older cars might be a bit chilly in the interior for a baby. In this case, it is important not to overdress the child. Layers of puffy clothing will interfere with the safe operation of the restraint and safety belts of the car seat. This is potentially far more dangerous to the child than the cold.
It is best to dress your child in normal layers of clothing, strap them in properly and place a blanket over the car seat to keep them warm. If the temperature increases while driving, it is far easier to remove a thin blanket or two, than having to stop the car to undo their car seat belts and remove jackets or jerseys.
