5 children tragically die after falling from a bouncy castle in Australia

Five children have died and four more have been left injured following a horrific incident which occurred at an end-of-term school party in Tasmania, Australia.

During the primary school fun day, children tragically fell from a bouncy castle that had been blown up into the sky by strong winds, throwing the children from a height of around 10 metres.

Police reports confirm that four of the five children who sadly lost their lives were two boys and two girls, of grades five and six — which means they would be around 10 to 12-years-of-age.

Another child later died in hospital due to serious injuries.

Reportedly, rescue helicopters and ambulances rushed to the scene which occurred at approximately 10am local time.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison described the incident as “just shattering” and “unthinkably heartbreaking”.

“Young children on a fun day out together with their families and it turns to such a horrific tragedy at this time of year, it just breaks your heart,” he said.

As reported by ABC News, parents and carers were asked to collect their children from school immediately, many not knowing if their child had been affected.

An investigation is currently ongoing.
