She is one of the most successful and respected actresses in the world, but it seems that none of that matters to Cate Blanchett’s children.

The star, who is mother to 13-year-old Dashiell, 10-year-old Roman and seven-year-old Ignatius, revealed this week that her children are going through a bit of a ‘too cool’ phase when it comes to their mum!

During an interview for her new movie, the live-action remake of Cinderella, the 45-year-old said: “My children are completely in the stage where I’m an utter embarrassment.”

“I don’t force them on a Saturday night to sit home and watch mummy’s movies, wire coat-hanger in hand, but they’ll see this one for sure,” she added, laughing.

Cate, who is married to Australian director Andrew Upton, recently spoke out to condemn parenting stereotypes as “complete rubbish”, admitting that there has always been high expectation on women to fall into “archetypes” when playing a mother onscreen.

“When anyone plays a mother on film, there is a whole raft of judgment in that a mother is a particular archetype or that every mother is the same – that’s complete rubbish,” she said.

She also went on to criticise the media for directing questions on balancing home life and career towards women alone.

We love Cate for her refreshing honesty, and no doubt her little ones are very proud of her - deep down!
