Hers is a story that parents all over the world have been following for the past year, and while she recently received a major blow to her custody plea, it seems that actress Kelly Rutherford is standing strong.

The mother-of-two has broken her silence after a Monaco judge ruled that her two young children, eight-year-old son Hermes and six-year-old daughter Helena, can no longer visit her in the US.

The ruling came at the end of a traumatic year for the former Gossip Girl star, in which she fought bitterly with ex-husband Daniel Giersch over custody arrangements.

In a new interview with ELLE Romania, the 46-year-old admitted that now she just wants her children to be happy, and she knows that making peace with the situation will help towards this.

“Children need both parents. You do not want to make them suffer. I hope that this story [will] be an example to others…Now, I want them to be happy, to know that they are loved. No matter how long it takes, I want them to know the truth,” cover star Kelly told the magazine.

She added: “I know that if I find my peace, they will benefit…When all this is over, I hope that they will look back and have the impression that it was not as bad as it was, actually.”

Kelly went on to reveal that she is hoping to use her heartbreaking story to raise awareness for other cases like her own.
