Coleen Nolan has announced her divorce from husband of ten years Ray Fensome. The 52-year-old shared the heartbreaking news in an open letter in The Mirror.

Coleen has been writing her column for the newspaper for over eight years, “Splitting with a partner who you’ve shared a life and home with – and who you’ve brought up kids with – is possibly the hardest thing you’ll ever do.”

She explained that sometimes a marriage just can’t be saved. “You have to face facts and accept the marriage is over. And that, I’m afraid readers, is where I am today,” she shared.

"I wanted to tell you first as I can hardly sit here and keep dishing out advice if I’m not being totally straight about what is going on in my own life,” she explained.

The mum admitted that it wasn’t an easy decision, “I’ve got tears pouring down my face as I write this.”

The Loose Women panellist never thought that their marriage would end, she hoped that they would stay together until they were old and grey, “I was convinced we’d grow old together, hobbling to the post office to collect our pensions.”

The presenter admitted that there’s no chance of mending their relationship, she knows divorce is the right decision.

“We owe it to ourselves. And we also owe it to our kids to show them that everyone has a right to be happy,” she wrote.

She added that there was nothing that could save their marriage, even though she wanted to, “I have fought, with every fibre of my being.”

Coleen knows she deserves to be happy and she knows this is the right decision, no matter how hard it is, “Once you know your marriage is truly dead you need to make your peace with that, bury the past and move on.”

Despite her heartache, the mum is looking forward to this new chapter of her life.
