While the notion of a stranger insulting our innocent child is foreign to most people, it is for some celebrities a cold harsh reality - an experience born of living life in the spotlight.

One famous mum however, who understandably refuses to accept that her child is fair game under any circumstances, responded to an Instragram troll this week and laid bare her feelings on the matter,

Having uploaded a shot of her son, Julez, looking utterly beautiful over the weekend, Solange Knowles was unsurprisingly taken aback to have her child dubbed 'ugly' by a social media user.

With admirable poise, the mum-of-one hit back at the troll and requested that they refrain from showering her page with negativity.

"Just as I thought it was safe to share pictures again, a young'n like you decides to use her time to spread ugliness," Solange began in a heartfelt post aimed directly at her son's critic.

Solange, in a display of true grace, appeared to empathise with the troll and thanked her for the impact her cruel words had on Solange's perspective on love and life.

"I don't fault you, I can only imagine why you would feel the need to say such things, but thanks again for being a reminder that out of all the love and wonderful energy shared, that when I open up a space for an innocent beautiful being like my boy to be criticised and judged, that I WILL most likely respond, and that he receives enough love and celebration at home that it's just not worth it to go down this road."

Urging her son's critic to take heed of her words, Solange continued: "I hope that this really resonates with you and you make better decisions in the future towards how you use your words towards innocent children."

With trademark feistiness, the singer, who is the younger sister of Beyonce, signed off with a word of warning, writing: "This could have gone truly south if I was in the wrong mood."

Us mums - we really are like lionesses when it comes to our cubs.
