When you’re feeling out of sorts and no one can figure out exactly why, it’s a worrying position to be in – especially if you are a mum.

This is why our hearts go out to singer and former Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle, who has opened up this week about the truth behind a recent mystery illness.

Nadine, who is mum to 20-month-old daughter Anaiya, appeared on Good Morning Britain today to speak about her carbon monoxide poisoning ordeal.

The 30-year-old revealed that her concern was first piqued as she began experiencing chest pain and memory loss.

“I was forgetting simple things. I couldn’t even remember the word for table. I thought there was something seriously wrong. I was like, ‘Is this a bug? Is it a cold? Am I getting ill?’” she said.

A trip to the doctor and blood tests revealed the truth behind this mystery illness – she had been exposed to dangerously high levels of gas. While Nadine initially thought that the gas exposure was from living in London, a visit from a maintenance man revealed that her illness was down to carbon monoxide in her own home.

“It just so happened that a guy was coming over to take a look at my boiler. That’s when I was told for the first time that there were dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide in my house,” said Nadine.

The star added: “We had to get everyone out of the house as soon as possible. Looking back, I was so lucky we got away when we did. Who knows what could have happened. It really didn’t cross my mind that I was being exposed to carbon monoxide.”
