Footballer Harry Kane has been the subject of extreme scrutiny since his controversial Twitter post on Wednesday.

The new father gushed about his fiancée's strength during childbirth, saying how proud he was of her for having a water birth without any medication.

Him and his partner Kate Goodland welcomed their baby girl, Vivienne Jane, to the world with an all-natural childbirth, free of complications. She is their second child and looks absolutely adorable curled up on her mother's chest.

The couple became first time parents last year in January when they had Vivienne's older sister, Ivy Jane.

The childhood sweethearts have one of those rare love stories that sounds straight out of a romantic comedy. They have known each other since their days at Chingford Foundation School. The two were pals at school and then began dating at a young age.

They have been together all these love-filled years, doting over one another and encouraging each other to pursue their dreams. Harry has become an integral member of the Tottenham Hotspurs and recently captained England at the 2018 World Cup.

Kate also has a shared passion for sport and pursued a degree in sports and exercise science. She now works hard as a professional fitness trainer.

The Spurs striker was over the moon when they had their second child and immediately shared the happy news on social media.

“Our beautiful addition to the family! Vivienne Jane Kane. So proud of @KateGoodlandx for having the most amazing water birth with no pain relief at all.”

Amidst the wave of encouragement and congratulations from fans and news outlets, Harry immediately faced backlash for his chosen words.

People were outraged at how the footballer said he was ‘proud’ of his fiancée for using no pain relievers during her birth.

One of those outraged was TalkRadio broadcaster Julia Hartley-Brewer, who commented: “Harry Kane has praised his fiancée for not using pain relief during childbirth. Is that something to be proud of?”

Other commenters quickly jumped on Julia’s bandwagon, calling Harry a "twit" and telling him to "sod off."

However, fans and fathers quickly jumped to Harry’s defence, saying Julia was "on the wrong track."

One commenter said: "I think it’s lovely he’s praised her. She’s delivered a beautiful baby and deserves praise whether pain relief or not."

The footballer was overwhelmed by the tidal wave of judgement and spiteful words thrown his way and felt forced to defend his post with another Tweet.

“Let’s get one thing straight, any women can give birth however they would like,” Harry posted.

“I’m very proud of my fiancée for doing it the way she wanted and we both learnt a lot from hypnobirthing.”

The public vastly supported the dad’s statement, telling him he should not have “to defend Kate’s choices. She did what was best for her. Congrats again.”

We have yet to see more animosity towards the footballer or further comments from Julia Hartley-Brewer. Kate has also not spoken out about her fiancée's statement.

Despite all the drama, we would like to congratulate Harry and Katie on the arrival of their gorgeous baby girl, Vivienne Jane.

We wish them all the best in the upcoming weeks, with the early morning giggles, the late night crying, and all the rest of it that comes with having a new baby in the family.
