Rescue crews have suspended their search efforts since the tragic discovery was made near the Poughkeepsie Yacht Club yesterday afternoon.
32-year-old Ian was kayaking with his girlfriend on Saturday afternoon, but got into difficulties after their boat capsized.
While Annie's daughter was rescued by a passing boat, Ian did not resurface after disappearing beneath the water of the Hudson River.
Commenting on the tragic incident, Captain John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office has said that "alcohol may have played a role" while also acknowledging the river's strong currents.
Warning the public of the dangers associated with the famous New York river, he continued by saying: "Going in the Hudson River, or any river, is not like going in a lake or a pool. There is a current and it can be pretty rough. Once you get out there and realise, it can be too late."
It is understood that an autopsy will be conducted today,
Ian, who has been dating model Tali for several years, lives with the young star in New York.
