Being a parent is a tough enough job, but we can’t imagine having our every movement monitored and judged by hordes of followers and fans on Instagram.
So, we would love to know what is going through actress and mum-of-one Hilary Duff’s mind after the controversy that played out on her social media channel this week.
The 28-year-old sparked an intense debate after sharing a photo of the ‘semi-cute’ outfit she put together, to drop her son Luca off to school this week.
Sharing a photo of herself sporting a pair of cut-off shorts, a T-shirt and a light trench coat, the doting mum wrote: “I usually roll in sweat pants or LuluLemons and look like a disaster, but this morning I managed to throw something cute together and thought I would share.”
She then encouraged her followers to try the outfit out for themselves and share the results on their own photo-blogging accounts.
Not everyone was so impressed with Hilary’s choice of outfit, however, and it wasn’t long before the backlash began.
“Pretty sure we wouldn’t be allowed in the school to drop off or pick up our kids if we wore this!” wrote one unimpressed follower.
And while another follower was more encouraging, telling her to just “do you”, she added: “I don’t know that the shorts are appropriate for school pick-up, and I definitely don’t think the outfit necessarily ‘goes together’”.
Many of Hilary’s fans leapt to her defence, however, and called out others for their judgmental and harsh comments.
“It makes me laugh, some people saying how a 'lady of class' wouldn't go out like this. I hate to break it to you, but I doubt a person of class would speak so harshly and rudely about someone. You sound ridiculous. If this outfit isn't your cup of tea then that's fine, but just let Hilary do her, and you do you. Honestly, it's pathetic!” wrote one annoyed fan.
