His little boy arrived into the world earlier this month, and delighted new dad, actor Chris O’Dowd, has opened up on life as a parent.

Recalling the moment that his wife Dawn gave birth to their first child, Art, he admitted that it was both an “incredible” and “scary” experience.

“It was an incredible moment, a hard thing to describe. I found initially in those moments right after the birth, which was really dramatic and scary, my initial concern was that Dawn was okay,” said the Bridesmaids star.

The 35-year-old added: “Almost secondarily you are dealing with the fact that this new person is in the world. Then five minutes later you are, ‘Oh my god’, and holding him in your arms. You feel suddenly like you are an antique-shop owner holding this incredibly fragile thing in your hands.”

Describing little Art as “an absolute sweetheart”, Chris admitted that he is loving every moment of parenthood.

Recently, wife Dawn gave an insight into her new role as a mother, saying that she could never have prepared herself for the mother-child bond.

“I am mortified by the fact that I used to tell people I understood what they meant because of how much I love my cat. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I do love my cat, but the way I love Art is off the scale,” said the presenter.
