Selena Gomez’s mum has opened up about her daughter’s kidney transplant ordeal.

Selena, who is battling lupus, an auto-immune disease recently revealed she’d undergone a kidney transplant.

Thankfully, Selena’s best friend Francia Raisa donated her kidney to her ailing friend in an amazing gesture of generosity.

Selena’s relieved mum Mandy Teefy took to Instagram re-posting a photo of Selena and Francia together on her company production page, saying: "This picture is one of the most breathtaking images that will live with me forever.

"For all those moments of not knowing if we were going up or going down, I can always come back to this picture and know we can always make it back up”.

Selena and her mum have a close bond as Mandy had her daughter at just 16 years old.

Selena’s parents divorced when she was five and she stayed with her mother.

The actress and singer had a tough upbringing as the family had very little money.

"As a mother, I was helpless, scared and all I could do was pray for both of them and Francia's beautiful family”, Mandy revealed.

Selena’s protective mum explained she did her best to be there for Selena in her hour of need.

"I am pretty sure I am banned from that hospital. Mama Bear was in high gear", she said.

"Selena gained a kidney, I was able to keep my little girl, but I also gained another daughter....thank you to everyone who was there for Sel, Francia and our families. We survived from all the love, prayers and God”.

Selena stunned fans last week when she posted a photo of herself online holding hands with Francia across their hospital beds after the operation. She also shared images of her surgery scar.

A grateful Selena explained she’d received a kidney transplant and thanked her medical team, her family and friends for their support.

“I want to publicly thank my family and my incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery", the singer wrote.

"And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis”.
