Prince William makes surprise appearance at birthday vigil for Diana

Yesterday marked what would have been Diana’s 58th birthday. There’s no doubt her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, were thinking of their dear mum on what should have been a day of celebration. Instead the two boys mourned the loss of their dear mum whose life was tragically taken away in 1997.

The death of Diana was not only felt by her family but by millions of fans across the globe. The public gathered at Kensington Palace to pay their respects to Diana yesterday and were stunned when Prince William made a special appearance to thank them.

According to Hello! Magazine, the dad-of-three greeted members of the public shortly after 7pm.

It is understood that he chatted to a small group of people outside of Buckingham Palace. He shook their hands and thanked them for their support on such an upsetting day for William and his family.

He also told the group that the Ian Rank-Broadley statue of his late mum will be revealed very soon. The statue, which is being created to mark Diana’s 20 year anniversary, will celebrate her life and legacy.

William shared: “Soon, very soon. We just want to make sure it is right. It's important to get it right."

William’s brother Prince Harry did not make an appearance at the vigil but there’s no doubt he honoured his mum’s birthday in his own personal way.

In the documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, Prince Harry said: “She was our mum. She still is our mum. And of course, as a son I would say this – she was the best mum in the world. She smothered us with love, that's for sure."
