Gingerbread loaf

This loaf cake is a delicious winter season essential.

230g flour

1/2 tsp salt

3 tsp baking powder

3 tsp Goodall's Ground Ginger

2 tsp Goodall's Ground All Spices

60g butter

60g soft brown sugar

140g black treacle

2 eggs

150ml milk

For the icing

150g icing sugar, sieved

1 orange, juice and zest

Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 5.
Grease and line a loaf tin. Mix the sieved flour with the salt, baking powder, Goodall’s Ground Ginger and Ground Allspice.
Melt the butter and stir in the sugar and the black treacle. Add the butter mixture to the dry mixture and combine well. 
Mix the eggs and the milk and gradually combine to the main mixture to make a smooth, thick batter. Pour into the loaf tin and bake for about 45 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean.
Meanwhile, make the icing, combining the icing sugar and orange juice. When the loaf is cool, pour the icing over the cake, allowing it to ooze over the edges. Scatter with the orange zest and let cool completely.
