Whirlpool issues major recall on tumble dryers over fire risk

Whirlpool has issued an urgent recall on tumble dryers over a potential fire risk. It is understood that hundreds of thousands of tumble dryers are being recalled.

They have recalled tumble dryers by the brands Proline, Swan, Creda, Hotpoint and Indesit. The affected products were made between 2004 and 2015.

Whirlpool stressed that their own branded tumble dryers are not affected.

The dryers are at risk of fire because of a possible lint build up in the machine’s heating element. The notice read, “If your dryer was made before September 2015 and you have not had it modified by the manufacturer, it may pose a risk of fire.”

If you do own one of the affected machines then Whirlpool suggest unplugging it immediately and to cease using the machine.

You can check if your tumble dryer is affected by calling a helpline 1 800 804 320 or by visiting indesithotpointsafety.com.

Whirlpool are offering numerous services to affected customers including an age-based refund, a heavily discounted upgrade, a free-of-charge in-home modification or a free replacement dryer.
