Parents, we hope that you can’t identify with the following story.

Picture this: you go out for the night and come home to find your house in absolute chaos. Your first thought will probably be that you have been broken into – but there might be another, more frightening reason.

This is something that mum Karen McGuinness discovered, when she came home one night to find that her house had been completely trashed.

However, one quick glance on Facebook was enough to inform her that, far from being targeted by thieves, this was the result of a wild night’s partying.

When Karen’s 15-year-old daughter invited a few friends over to her 'free house', she planned a quiet night of music and laughter but, thanks to a careless Facebook post giving away her address, it quickly turned into a violent party.

Indeed, up to 50 teenagers – many of them strangers to Karen’s daughter – descended upon the Glasgow house, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage in less than an hour.

The alarm was first raised by Karen’s concerned neighbours, who called her to let her know what was happening.

Karen came home to find her bedroom door booted off its hinges, her son’s Xbox ripped from the wall and thrown through the window, and her garden decking smashed to pieces.

Describing her house as totally “trashed” and “ruined”, Karen revealed that her insurers can do nothing for her, as the kids were technically invited to the house.

Having been able to track down some of the kids’ names, Karen added that the best she can do for now is get in touch with their families and hope they will own up to the damage.

This shocking story further highlights the need to be careful when posting information on social media websites. Let’s hope that Karen can get some justice.
