Shaving is a necessary evil that often ends up with mums leaving the bathroom with nicks and a trickle of blood down the shin.

To avoid any shaving mishaps, read our seven top tips:

Make sure your legs are wet
Shaving your legs when they are dry can leave you with razor burn, so make sure they are wet. Luke warm water is best and make sure to use either a gel or foam.

Choosing a gel or foam
Both are as equally efficient as the other but using a gel can often mean you are less likely to nick your skin.

Knowing which direction to shave in
When it comes to shaving your legs, you can actually go either with or against the hair. Although, going against the hair will give you a better shave and it is definitely easier moving from your ankle up to your knee than the other way.

When to throw out the razor
You’ll only get about three uses from a disposable razor so pop it in the bin after this length of time. It will just be blunt and you won’t get as close a shave as you would like meaning you will be left with a few hairs on your legs.

Shaving in the shower or bath
Whatever is easiest for you, go for it. Whether you are sitting in the bath or standing in the shower, the water running over your legs will soften the hairs, making it easier to get a smooth, close shave.

Avoid a dry blade
A dry blade is likely to cut your skin so make sure you keep it wet. Clean your blade after every stroke to avoid a build up which will prevent a close shave.

Moisturise
Make sure you apply a moisturiser to your legs after saving for a smooth finish.
