Vet bills can be expensive but that is no reason to substitute professional treatment with human medication that can be harmful to your dog.

 

1. Stomach problems  

Over-the-counter medicines like ibuprofen can cause serious problems such as stomach ulcers for your dog, even if only given a small dose.

 

2. Vomiting

Antidepressant medication can cause your dog to get sick and may even lead to serotonin syndrome – a condition which causes elevated heart rate and high blood pressure.

 

 

3. Elevated heart rate

Pseudoephedrine is used in many colds and sinus products but can cause elevated heart rate or high blood pressure is ingested by your dog.

 

4. Life-threatening tumours and seizures

Medications used to treat ADHD in humans contain potent stimulants such as amphetamines and can cause life-threatening conditions.

 

5. Agitation

Medication designed to reduce anxiety and aid sleep in people can have the opposite effect on dogs, causing them to become agitated.
