The last thing anyone wants when travelling around is to be robbed, but, unfortunately, tourists are prime targets of pickpockets.
Usually travelling in large crowds and not as well protected as locals, thieves can slip a tourist's phone out of their pocket in seconds, without you even noticing.
Thankfully, there are plenty of things you can do to protect your valuables, and have a great time.
1. Use your common sense
If something seems odd or a little unusual then it probably is.
2. Know that you CAN be a victim
No one is safe from pickpockets - but knowing you can be a victim is one step towards protecting yourself.
3. Be aware of anyone that approaches you
Even if they look official, you need to be careful as they could simply be creating a rouse to get close to you.
4. Hold your bag in front of you when walking around the city or taking public transport
If you can see your possessions, you will be better able to protect them than if they are behind you.
5. Carry your money, passport and credit cards in a bum bag and wear it under your clothes
If they can't see it, they won't know it's there!
6. Be wary of hotel safes as not all of them are secure
Key cards can be easily copied or decoded so only use ones with a keypad for locking.
7. Don’t keep valuables - like your phone - in your back pocket
You may as well just give it away at that rate.
