Michelle and Barack Obama are one of the public’s favourite power couples. The inspiring pair celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary yesterday.
To honour the special day Barack went all out and surprised his darling wife in the best way. Forget about bouquets of flowers and expensive jewelry, Barack left his wife stunned with a touching video message.
Michelle was in the middle of speaking to Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes at the Pennsylvania Conference for Women in Philadelphia when the clip started to play.
The mum-of-two was stunned when her husband’s face appeared on the screen. Barack isn’t shy about sharing how much he adores his powerful wife.
The former president spoke fondly about his wife in the video that is making everyone swoon.
Writer and producer Shonda Rhimes had the honour of introducing the sweet video, she told Michelle she had a special surprise for her to celebrate their special day.
Her doting husband opens the video by saying, “Hey honey, listen I know you’re with all these important Pennsylvanian women and you’re sharing the stage with our buddy Shonda Rhimes, but I had to crash this party.”
He gracefully apologised to the audience but informed them of their special anniversary.
Barack expressed his disbelief that Michelle stayed with him for so long, “The idea that you would put up with me for a quarter of a century is a remarkable testament to what a saintly, wonderful, patient person you are.”
Michelle blushed and giggled as her husband sang her praises in the adorable video.
He goes on to say that being married to Michelle has been a breeze because she is such a loveable and supportive woman.
He shared, “The fact of the matter is not only are you an extraordinary partner, not only have you been a great friend, you have been somebody who could always make my life, somebody who would always make sure I was following what I thought was right.”
Barack thanked his wife for being an inspirational figure for their two daughters- 20-year-old Malia and 16-year-old Sasha, “Your strength, your grace, your determination, your honesty, the fact that you look so good doing all this, the way in which you've always taken responsibility for your own actions but also for looking out for the people around you is remarkable.”
He shared his belief that asking her out on a date was the greatest decision he has ever made. The Obama’s went to see the Spike Lee movie Do the Right Thing for their first date.
Barack ended the video by saying, “I figured that you wouldn’t mind me parachuting in to say how much I love you and how much I appreciated you.”
Michelle dedicated an Instagram post to her adoring husband, she wrote, “Happy 25th-anniversary @barackobama. A quarter of a century later, you're still my best friend & the most extraordinary man I know. I love you.”
