Camping in the woods? Here’s how to prepare
The wood remains one of the most exciting camping sites. The greenery, shrubs, thick undergrowth, and the smell of the foliage defines the unique features of a camping experience.

Good memories are worth repeating. With your backpack, the one person tents in place, you may think you’re ready to go for the next thrilling experience. However, it pays to prepare thoroughly because once you’re out, you’re away from home.

How to prepare for camping in the woods

Invest in a backpack
You’ll need a high-quality backpack to store all your supplies. Invest in a sturdy backpack that is comfortable on your trunk as you walk. Some of the essentials include food supplies, toiletries, first-aid items, and more. Pick one with compartments to allow you to separate items. The fasters should be functional and easy to use.

Choose the ideal site
Find a camping site in time and find out if there are any restrictions about it. Some camping sites require campers to have sought permission. Processing a camping permit may take more time than you thought, so secure one in time. If your camping spot is a popular joint for most campers, you may need to confirm its availability.

Carry enough water
The water out there may not be safe for your consumption. Therefore, you need to carry adequate drinking water to hydrate yourself throughout the season.

Since one cannot carry a lot of water, buy a purifier or iodine tablets. Water treatment solutions are easy to use. However, a water purifier can break down while in the woods. In such a scenario, iodine tablets can come in handy.

Fire supplies
Fire is an essential element in any camping experience. It helps campers to keep warm and may provide fuel for making the meals. Confirm if the camping site allows hikers to set fire in the area.

Carry a handsaw for splitting dry pieces of wood and splinters. Remember waterproof matches to start the fire. To set the fire burning, you’ll need dry leaves, and slivers all collected from the woods. Extinguish the fire once you’re done to safeguard the woods and other campers.

Pack adequate cloth items
If you’ll be away for a day, you can carry items for one change. Nonetheless, take some clothes to help you feel fresh for the days you’ll be in the woods. The woods can be wet and cold, so carry some warm clothing to keep you cosy. Go in closed shoes or boots and some sandals for a change once you get there.  You can add some warm sleeping pyjamas and socks.

Pack a first-aid kit
When accidents happen, you need to attend to them effectively. You’ll need to pack first-aid supplies for burns, bites, cuts, abrasions and bruises. Remember to get medications such as paracetamols, mild anti-biotic, antiseptics and antihistamine creams.

Other items to include are tweezers, antiseptic wipes, skin glue, sunscreen, and mosquito-repellant jelly.
