Real Christmas trees smell absolutely divine and whether you plan on getting one or already have your real tree, here are three ways to keep it looking fresh until Christmas day and beyond.

Keep it away from heat sources

Never put your tree anywhere near a heat source as it can dry out the branches and even pose a potential fire hazard. Keep it in a corner, preferably near a window.

Put it in a stand with water

Make sure you put your tree in a stand that contains water to avoid it drying out. It will absorb at least gallon of water and you will need to keep topping it up to ensure the water doesn't drop below the base of the tree as a sealant will form and your tree won't be able to absorb water.

Cut the trunk to help water absorption

If the tree was cut more than 12 hours before you bought it, you will need to do another straight cut across the bottom of the trunk to help it with water absorption.
