If you are anything like us, you enviously drool over perfect, tidy houses on Pinterest, while yours becomes so overloaded with clutter that you are struggling to get through the front door - well, not literally.

Decluttering your home doesn’t have to be a big deal, if you take it room by room over a long period of time it won’t feel like a huge gruelling task.

Follow our tips for a clutter-free, Pinterest-worthy home:

Do it when the kids are not there

Your kids are not going to let you throw out anything; for every item you put in the bin, your little one will take out two.

Be ruthless

Leave sentiment outside when you are decluttering - you need to be ruthless when doing this job otherwise nothing will be done. Stick with the rule – if it is doesn’t have a place, put it in bin (or recycle/give to charity, obviously).

Start off small

There is no point going in to a room and saying ‘right, it all has to go’ - you’ll be sitting down for a rest before you have even started. Start off in one corner and work your way around. This way it will seem like the task at hand is smaller.

Schedule it in

You need to schedule a particular day where you plan on doing the job. This way you will have everything ready and be in the right frame of mind to be able to handle to task.

Have everything ready

Make sure you are organised before you even start. So have your For Charity, Recycling and Rubbish bags ready so all you need to do is chuck stuff into wherever it is meant to be going.
