In December, the Baglin family welcomed a beautiful baby girl.
Eva was a little sister for three-year-old Aria. But Eva was born with a very rare heart condition.
In her first 5 weeks of life, she has spent all that time in hospital having open heart surgery, collapsed lungs, vocal cord paralysis and endless blood tests and X-rays.
But just when the family felt they could take no more, Eva's dad, Luke was rushed to hospital with what doctors suspected was lung cancer and brain lesions.
The Baglin family were told to prepare for the worst.
Aimee Baglin alternated at the bedside of both her husband and her daughter, running from hospital to hospital, torn between both.
Luckily, a biopsy showed the lesions were actually a fungal infection (carried by gum trees) and it wasn't cancer. It was a fungal meningeal encephalitis. And while the family were delighted with the less serious diagnosis, Luke continues to battle the disease in hospital on IV medication and daily lumbar punctures to relieve brain pressure.
A GoFund me page was set up for the family who has had to abandon work to care for the youngest and oldest family members simultaneously.
Last Monday baby Eva underwent her second open heart surgery to treat a double inlet left ventricle. At the same time at another hospital in Sydney, Luke had a seizure.
Now, both Luke and Eva are fighting for their lifes, but wife and mum, Aimee is adamant that "You’ve just got to be positive and optimistic. Falling apart doesn’t help."
Our thoughts are with the family.
