If your hamster hasn’t moved or eaten or drank in three days, that’s definitely a cause for concern, right?

One worried little girl took her hamster to the vet as he had been immobile for three days and the veterinary student on duty was quite concerned when she heard her tale of woe.

Expecting she would be giving the child bad news, she asked the little girl if there was anything that could have caused the hamster’s sudden paralysis.

The little girl replied: “Yeah he escaped for a bit but we found him under the fridge.”

The veterinary student removed the hamster from the cage and found not only was he alive, but he was moving, eating and drinking like normal once out of the cage.

Then she noticed something strange, a bulge in the hamster’s cheek pouch. She opened his mouth to find what he was storing in there and the result was most unexpected – a fridge magnet!

Turns out the poor hamster had been stuck to the side of his metal cage by the fridge magnet!

The veterinary student shared the hilarious anecdote with her sister later on who couldn’t resist posting it to Twitter.

The hamster’s unfortunate escapade soon went viral with Twitter users intrigued to see what had happened.

It was retweeted over 130,000 times as Twitter users expressed their relief for the poor little hamster.

“Terrified this hamster was going to end badly and now I am crying with a weird combo of relief and joy and something else I can’t name,” one user wrote.

While another shared their own hilarious hamster mishap: “I remember once a friend had a hamster not moving they were about to bury it thinking it was dead, turned out it was that cold it hibernated.”

We’re so relieved for this little girl but we can’t stop laughing either! Have you ever had a funny mishap with a family pet mums? Let us know.
