There is nothing as disheartening as looking out your back window at your gorgeous, blooming flowers only to see them sitting on a backdrop of brown, patchy grass.

While dry grass is common in the summer when it is a particularly hot one, it doesn’t mean there is nothing you can’t do about it.

Here are four tips to help you get your lawn looking in tip top condition for the entire summer:

1. Leave clippings on the lawn after mowing

After you have mowed the lawn, instead of picking up the grass clippings and putting them in your compost just leave them where they are lying. This can help produce moisture – but don’t leave them in clumps on the ground.

2. Water it

If it is particularly hot, there may be water restrictions in place which will prevent you from watering your lawn, but if there isn’t soak your grass. Do this early in the morning or late at night to stop it evaporating – but you don’t need to do it every day.

3. Stay off the grass

Reduce the amount of traffic on the lawn as much as possible as this can cause the soil to become compacted. Ask people to walk around the edges and don't allow the kids play on it as it can leave the soil struggling to get what moisture it can.

4. Feed it

Use a good fertiliser to feed your lawn and help it stay healthier. However, don’t use it on newly laid grass or if there a problem with fungus problem as it can scorch it.
