Last month, Kerry Katona revealed that she had separated with her third husband George Kay. This weekend, she has spoken to The Sunday People about their rocky, three-year marriage.

Kerry said that she lived in “constant fear” of her husband and had to call the police after an outburst with the former boxer.

According to the interview, she says that her kids were pleading with her to leave her husband.

“I feel like the worst mother in the world, and I will never forgive myself. No child should have to hear what they heard, or see what they saw,” she said

“I sat my Molly and Lily down because they’re older, and all I could do was apologise profusely to them. I said to the girls, ‘I’m so sorry I’ve let this go on for so long.’ They said, ‘Why are you standing for this? Just leave him.’”

The mum-of-five took her daughters’ advice and split up with her husband. She also claimed that her former partner was verbally abusive to her and tried to shut her friends out of her life.

“George likes to hold a grudge. He didn’t like me having friends. He wanted me all to himself. He has had so much power over me for so long, but I can’t let my children go back to that, even if I could,” she said.

“There were arguments all the time. Even my relationship with my children went on hold because he wanted all of my attention."

The domestic incident reminded Kerry of how she begged her own mother to leave an abusive partner when she was very young.

Now  she fears that history could be repeating itself with her own children.

The reality star has one child with George – three-year-old daughter Dylan-Jorge, also known as DJ.

They had previously split in 2015, following claims that he had assaulted her, but the case was later dropped after Kerry withdrew her statement.

George Kay was arrested for assault and for being in possession of a taser gun in 2015.
