Image of abandoned baby is released as police urge the mum to seek help

A newborn baby girl has been abandoned in an East London park during the freezing weather conditions, police have discovered.

The baby was found in Newham late on Thursday night and was taken to hospital in East London, as snow hit the UK capital.

The infant has been hooked up to an intravenous drip and monitoring equipment, but this morning is said to be in a stable condition.

Police are said to be growing "increasingly concerned" for the safety and welfare of the baby's mum. Scotland Yard have claimed that she may need immediate medical care and they have now asked her to contact the emergency services.

Inspector Shane Clarke of the North East Command Unit said: "It is really important that we know that you are safe," he said, speaking to the parent,

"I would also urge anyone who has information that could help us to reunite this baby with her mother to come forward."

The park where the baby was found is close to Roman Road and Saxon Road, where the force were called around 10:15pm.

The infant was taken to hospital after officers and the London ambulance services arrived at the scene.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the baby's mum or parent has been asked to call police on 101 quoting reference CAD7825/31JAN or Tweet @MetCC.
