For many of us, our early twenties were spent travelling around Europe by train as we tried to visit as many countries as possible. However, just because you have a family doesn’t mean you have to give up on your train adventures until the kids have flown the nest.

If you still think InterRailing is not going to make a good family holiday, then these reasons will hopefully change your mind.

You’ll visit lots of countries in a short space of time

You can visit lots of different countries in your annual two week vacation – think of the stories the kids will have when they go back to school.

You'll meet loads of new people

Travelling by train provides plenty of opportunity for meeting new people from all across the world. And by hitting four or five countries in a short space of time, your kids will be making friends all over Europe.

They'll pick up a few new words

Ok we know you won’t be there long enough to be able to speak fluently, but your youngster will still pick up a word or two from whatever country you visit.

Spending time together

You can be on the train for anywhere between four and 12 hours giving you plenty of time to catch up and spend time as a family.

Some kids can travel for free

Yes, depending on who you book with kids under the age of four and sometimes even 12 can travel for free.

You can get them involved in planning the route

Spend the evening looking at a map of Europe and planning on where you want to visit and what you want to see – you can’t do this on a normal sun holiday.

No TV needed

Trains are a great way to travel and kids will love looking out of the window – much better than watching the telly.
