Kirsty Ward’s family release first statement after mother-of-two found dead

The family of Kirsty Ward have released a statement following the news of her murder.

The 36-year-old mother was on holiday at the Magnolia Hotel in Salou, Spain at the time of her death. It was believed that she had travelled to the resort on Friday afternoon (June 30).

Kirsty was discovered dead in a corridor by hotel staff members just a few days later, on Sunday night (July 2).

As the hotel is adults-only, Kirsty’s two children did not accompany her on the trip. A 30-year-old man, who is believed to have been on holiday with Kirsty, has been arrested on suspicion of killing her.

The man, who has not yet been named publicly by Spanish police, has subsequently been remanded to prison after a court hearing on Wednesday.

Now, a few days after their heartbreaking loss, Kirsty’s loved ones have released the first official photograph of the mother-of-two from Dublin, as well as a brief statement.

In the statement, a spokesperson for Kirsty’s family noted: "'The Department of Foreign Affairs are liaising with the family of mother of one Kirsty Ward from Dublin. The family will not be making any further comment or statements and ask for privacy during this distressing time."

It is believed that the 30-year-old Irish suspect was initially treated in hospital under armed guard after suffering apparent self-inflicted injuries to his hand.

He was later placed into custody, where he will remain as the investigation into Kirsty’s death continues.
