Being a renter has it’s positives – a free replacement when the washing machine breaks down for one – but not being able to decorate can be a negative side for some.

However, there are plenty of ways you can add personal touches to your home either by hanging a few pictures of adding colour with throws. But when it comes to the garden, families can feel limited in what they can do – but they needn’t.

There are plenty of things you can do to give your back or front outdoor space a bit of a spruce up, here are five ideas to get you started:

1. Colourful pots

Whether you fill them with plants or not, a few flower pots dotted throughout the garden can give a real pop of colour.

2. Bring the inside out

Invest in some outdoor furniture to make the garden a part of the house. You can pick up chairs and tables fairly cheaply, particularly around now, and with a few throws and pillows thrown on them you can make a really cosy space.

3. Hide things you don’t like

If there is something in the garden that you aren’t too keen on like a metal shed or a steal fence simply hide it with a temporary structure. Potted trees, wooden fences and even statues are a great way to make it a little more you.

4. Hanging baskets

You can really change the feel of a garden with a few hanging baskets dotted around the place. now that it is winter you might be a little stuck in terms of colour but by utilising a number of evergreens you can create texture with different shades.

5. A water feature

If you like the sound of water (we don’t mean rain water) then you might like to install a water feature. While you won’t be able to go out and dig your own pond (unless the landlord is particularly accommodating) you can pick up temporary structures in your local garden centre that do the same thing.
