34-year-old Rowane Darby wrote 17 years worth of birthday cards for her four-year-old son before she lost her battle with cancer. She also wrote cards for his future graduation and wedding.
According to the Mirror, the mum-of-one who suffered from rectal cancer for four years before dying in Bolton Hospital in Manchester just before the New Year, wanted to leave keepsakes for her son as he grew up.
Talking about her disease back in 2013, the brave woman said: "When it gets closer to the time where I won't be here I'm going to get a big photo book and put all the emails I've written for Freddie in there for when he gets older. I'm privileged that I can prepare for my death - if I was in a car crash there would be none of these memories for Freddie."
She added: "When I die it's going to be awful for my family but at least they know it's going to happen and because of this we've had the best quality time together beforehand."
Talking about his inspiring wife, her husband Phil Darby said: "Rowena always stood out from the crowd. She was brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous not to mention very intelligent."
"She shone and her presence made other people shine. Being with her taught me so much more about myself than I already knew."
What a truly heartbreaking story. Thinking of the family at this sad time.
