Rachael Blands husband reveals their sons moving words after her death

Rachael Bland’s husband Steve has opened up about how he and son Freddie are coping since the untimely passing of his wife and Freddie’s mum.

The broadcaster lost her battle with cancer on September 5. She was surrounded by her close family at the time of her death.

Rachael is survived by her son Freddie and husband Steve. During an appearance on Rachael’s podcast You, Me and the Big C, Steve revealed the heartbreaking thing his son said to him about Rachael.

He explained that he had been frustrated with his son one morning: “I shouted at him because he was being a right pain, (I was) trying to get him dressed. I started crying because it really upset me that I’d shouted at him.”

Young Freddie turned around to his dad and said: “Daddy, are you crying because of Mummy?” and I said “Yes”. And he said, “Daddy, don’t worry, it’s just us two now. It’ll be OK”.’

Despite the mammoth loss, Freddie is as bright as ever, Steve shared. “He’s brilliant – he’s a bit young really to understand even on a very base level what’s happened. But he’s just full of energy, full of joy, full of life, keeping us busy – he’s fantastic.”

The dad gushed about his young boy: “You can’t look at him without seeing Rachael either so it’s a little bit of her all the time just next to me.”
