We were recently sent a lovely little cookbook called ‘Scrumptious Home Baking’ and we think mums are really going to love it. The book features 50 baking recipes and has been created by Diverse Abilities Plus, a disability charity in Dorset.

While we are delighted that this book is in aid of a fantastic cause, what we really love about the book is how mummy-friendly the recipes are. These cakes and treats are sweet and simple, and perfect for any family event, whether it’s a child’s birthday party, a play date or even Christmas dessert.

Recipes have been submitted by local parents, teacher, and kids, so you know that every recipe will be family-friendly. There are even a few recipes from some celebrities! The book is divided into categories that will make your life a little easier – Afternoon Tea, Cooking with Kids, Chocolate Indulgence, Cold Desserts and Comfort Cooking. We adore the Cooking with Kids section – there are lovely recipes like Cake Pops and Mud Pie Cake that look really fun to make, and delicious to eat. So next time you are hosting a play date, simply pull out one of these recipes and get the kids together to help create some tasty treats.

The Afternoon Tea section has lots of classic recipes, like Red Velvet Cake, Victoria Sandwich, and Carrot Cake that every mum should learn how to make. There are also some lovely variations on cupcakes – like Chocolate & Strawberry Marble Cupcakes and Baileys Cupcakes – that look fabulous and are perfect for an afternoon coffee or a birthday party.

Of course the Chocolate Indulgence section is divine. The Chocolate & Pecan Brownies with Crème Anglaise is really simple and sure to be a crowd pleaser (it was also submitted by X Factor host Dermot O’Leary)!

What is really wonderful about this book is that it has a truly genuine personal touch. Photos of members and staff of Diverse Abilities Plus accompany the recipes, and there are also some gorgeous pictures of all the recipes being created and sold at a fundraising bake sale. Another nice touch is that at the back of the book, there is a guide on how to hold your own fundraising bake sale.
