Good news for sleepy head secondary school students! A Sussex secondary school is contemplating changing their start time to facilitate students who can't get out of bed.

Now we've all heard that one (and used it ourselves on our own parents) but this school is taking the issue very seriously.

Blatchington Mill School will be consulting students, staff and parents about moving the start time from 8.30 a.m. to 9.25 a.m, according to The Mirror.

The school day would then end at 4 p.m. rather than 3 p.m.

This follows educational research suggesting adolescents benefit more from later starts in the morning.

Head teacher Ashley Harrold said: “We want to take an approach of looking at research to see how to do things better for young people and families and then implement this in the school."

“We don’t think that school is the way it is and can never be changed."

Parents were quick on weigh in on social media with their opinions on the proposed changes.

Dad Daniel Curtis said his son was happy with things how they were.

He said: “There’s more time to relax, play, do homework in the evenings. They’ll just go to bed later and get up later. Pointless.”

Julie Green disagreed, saying the new proposals would help youngsters.

She said: “This is an absolute must for teen development. Finally people are making the right changes to develop the adults of the future in the best possible way.”

If the school decides to go ahead with this plan, it will not come into force until 2018.
