To celebrate the welcome onset of spring, we’re looking ahead to the big trends tipped for next season, from the colours and shapes to the key pieces and styles. Yesterday, we shared some of the pretty prints and patterns to keep an eye out for, and today we’re turning our attention to the key fabrics filling up the high street.

1. Denim
Mums, rejoice – your favourite jeans and denims have never been so on-trend. This season, denim is everywhere, from dresses and jumpsuits to shirts and skirts. Invest in a quirkier piece than usual – perhaps a pinafore to team with your white shirt – to really stand out while maintaining casual comfort. If you’re feeling really brave, why not double up on your denims? A dark denim shirt tucked into a lighter shade of jeans is always a sure hit.

2. Suede
This season is seeing a big retro revival, with a particular focus on the hip, hot styles from the seventies. Naturally then, suede is a big feature in the SS15 trends, something which will be music to your ears since suede is one of the most versatile and timeless fabrics to have in your wardrobe. If you really want to summon your inner earth mother, go all-out with some fringing, which is also huge this season.

3. Lace
Many of the big runway shows featured throwbacks to Victorian ruffles and figure-swamping folds which, let’s face it, are not going to fly while you’re doing the school run! The positive thing to pull from this trend, however, is the focus on pretty, dainty lace – something that’s much easier to incorporate into your daily routine. Lace trim on your skirts and shirts will add a really feminine finish to any spring look, while a high-neck lace blouse will make a really elegant statement if you feel like pushing the boat out.
