Now that the sequins and sparkles are firmly back in the bottom drawer for another year, it’s time to up-style our New Year wardrobes – starting with our very favourite go-to item. Here are three new denim trends to tap into this month.

1. Ankle-grazer

The ankle grazer is a fun, '50s-inspired take on our modern skinny jean and works perfectly whether paired with ankle boots, trainers or pumps – making it your go-to style for January right through to spring, and into the summer.

The complete look: Team with ankle boots and a simple sweater, finishing off with a show-stopping full-length car-coat. As the weather starts to ease up, swap the boots for trainers and experiment with a bomber jacket on top.

2. Flared

Get ahead of the fashion pack by investing in one of spring’s hotly-tipped jean styles right now. The good news is that those ‘60s-style chunky-heeled ankle boots that were so ‘in’ throughout autumn/winter are the perfect match for the flare.

The complete look: Pair your comfy heeled boots with a dark-blue or black denim pair of flares, teamed with a long-sleeved blouse and a fleece or faux-fur gilet. Top it all off with a fedora hat.

3. Embroidered and patched

Embroidery is a major upcoming denim trend, with everything from little floral details to big printed patches hitting the fashion radar. This is an especially great look on boyfriend jeans, adding a girly and fun twist.

The complete look: Keep your jeans as the focal point of the outfit, setting the look off with a plain leather jacket and a thin neutral sweater layered beneath.
