Christy High's baby was born 6lb 10oz at exactly 6:10 am at dawn on Mother's Day. The peculiarities don't end there, though. The US mother may have had one of the most low-key births we've ever heard of.

When Kentucky mum Christy began experiencing labour, she immediately notified her husband Jon to make their way down to the hospital.

Christy assumed she had plenty of time before the birth of her baby boy - after all, most labours last around eight hours or can stretch on for up to 18 hours.

As Christy lay in the back seat and prepared for the journey to the hospital, she soon realised that her body had other plans. Christy's water broke shortly after the couple took off.

"We had been in the car for about 20 minutes, and all of a sudden my body just started pushing involuntarily," says Christy.

Realising she was giving birth then and there, Christy reached down and was shocked to find that her impatient baby's head was pushing through.

Knowing that her husband, now navigating the freeway, could become panic-stricken, Christy played off the entire situation.

"I felt his head and then I could feel his face, and I thought, 'OK, time to do the body ... so I pushed the body out and I caught him'," Christy recalled.

Father Jon was only alerted to the fact that something might be off when he heard baby Oliver Joseph cry. "What's that?" he asked. Christy's response: "It's Oliver. It's OK."

The couple and their newborn were welcomed by staff at the Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

It's no wonder Christy handled the birth so well - she's a hypno-doula. A hypno-doula assists mothers and midwives during childbirth, but employs hypnosis techniques that she and the mother practised before the birth, relying on verbal and physical cues to put the mother in a deep relaxation during the birth.

Appearing on ABC News, Christy said, "He will always be the best Mother's Day gift I ever got."

High said her husband is 'ecstatic' about the couple's bundle of joy: "He was very nervous being the driver, I'm sure, but he was my rock star," she added. "He got us here safely, and he is an amazing father."

Oliver joins three-year-old sister Rowan, and the family confirmed they were all doing fine.
