The Duchess of Sussex makes history with British Vogue cover

The Duchess of Sussex has made history by becoming the first ever guest editor of British Vogue’s September issue.

Meghan declined the offer of appearing on the cover and instead invited 15 influential women to grace the front page. The Duchess believed it would be too boastful of her to appear on the front page.

The cover made history by featuring one of the youngest cover stars, 16-year-old Greta Thunberg and the publication’s oldest cover star, 81-year-old Jane Fonda.

As well as Thunberg and Fonda, New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern, Sinead Burke and Salma Hayek grace the front page.

Yara Shahidi, Laverne Cox, Jameela Jamil, Gemma Chan and Christy Turlington Burns also feature.

Adwoa Aboah, Adut Akech, Ramla Ali, Francesca Hayward and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie complete the line-up.

The Duchess also featured a mirror on the front cover so the reader can use their own platforms to effect change.

Meghan has been working alongside Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful and his team for the past seven months. She has played a vital role in putting together the Forces for Change issue, and as part of that prestigious role, Meghan penned a guest editors letter.

The new mum opened up about her experience at British Vogue, the work of the 15 cover stars and the power of the collective.

The Duchess revealed that she was five months pregnant when she began working with Edward and his team.

"I was about five months pregnant when this process began, and by the time you hold this issue in your hands, my husband and I will be holding our three-month-old baby boy in ours,” she wrote.

Meghan couldn’t help but gush about motherhood in her letter. “It’s a very special time for me personally, on so many levels; working with Edward and his team has played no small part in that joy.”

This is a major achievement for the Duchess of Sussex and she deserves every ounce of praise.

The September issue of British Vogue will be available from Friday, August 2.
