Three teenagers killed in suspected crush at Tyrone disco

Three teenagers have died following a reported ‘crush’ at a disco in Tyrone. The incident took place on the night of St. Patrick’s Day in the Greenvale Hotel.

Emergency services were called to the Greenvale Hotel in Cookstown shortly after 9.30 pm.

It is understood that large crowds were trying to leave the building when the incident occurred.

The PSNI confirmed that a 17-year-old boy, 17-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy had tragically died.

A further three people were hospitalised with serious injuries.

A PSNI spokesperson commented: “A major investigation is now underway, however preliminary information suggests a crush took place towards the front door.”

"Our investigation is at an early stage, and while the exact cause of the incident is still unknown, there are reports of a crush at the scene and initial enquiries indicate that a large group of young people were waiting to enter a disco.”

The police have appealed for witnesses to contact them. They have also asked parents to encourage their children to come forward if they witnessed anything at the disco.
