Whether you’re going abroad to spend time with family and friends or just fancy a change of scenery for the holidays, it can be hard to be away from home for the festive period.
However, with these tips in mind, you can still have a happy and traditional-filled Christmas.
Embrace local traditions
Try to find a local traditional festive cuisine and enjoy it with your dinner – a great way to introduce yourself to new foods.
Keep some traditions
Even if you are away you can still do some of your old traditions like opening presents in the morning, scattering reindeer dust on Christmas Eve or watching a movie before bed.
Reassure kids about Santa
If your little one is worried that Santa won’t be able to find them on Christmas Eve reassure them that he is magic and no matter where they are he’ll deliver them their gifts.
Make sure you have all your gifts
If you plan on buying all your gifts before you leave, don’t forget to take them with you - or it will just give you unnecessary stress.
Decorate
If you are staying in a hotel or rented apartment take the time to decorate it with Christmas decorations to give it a festive feel. You could make some with the kids and hang them up to make it feel more homely.
Don't expect too much
If this is the first time your family is going to be away for the festive season don’t become upset if things don’t feel exactly like they would at home because it won’t. You need to treat it as an experience and adventure with the kids.
