Parents are often warned to never leave their children unattended in a vehicle, especially in high temperatures.

These summer months have been hotter than usual with frequent heat waves and record setting weather.

Unfortunately, some still disregard the intense heat and fail to heed warnings of its effect on young kids.

On Monday, two children were found alone in a vehicle in 27 degree temperature during midday.

The children were just one and two years old and were seen by people passing by in the Morrison car park in Reigate, Surrey.

Thankfully, those who found the overheated children were able to open the car’s doors and cool them down with water, ensuring they were hydrated.

It is unknown how long the kids had been in the car before they were attended to by their rescuers.

The Reigate and Banstead Police posted about the incident on their Facebook page, warning the public against this dangerous behaviour.

This “potential risk is as serious as they come. The outcome of this incident could have been much much worse had action not have been taken”.

Police were shocked when they discovered that the children’s parent was a medical professional:

“This coupled with the fact that the ‘parent’ was a doctor and the act of leaving pets and children in hot vehicles is all over the public domain in the media.”

The officials ended the post with this caution:

“We can’t keep reiterating this message enough. DO NOT LEAVE KIDS AND PETS IN HOT CARS!!!”

Parents have commented on the post calling the parent “careless”. One even urged for the doctor’s employer to be notified of the negligent incident.

While temperatures remain high, we urge people everywhere to not leave children alone in hot vehicles, even if it is for five minutes.

It is not worth the risk or the danger that the child is put in.
