Victoria Smurfit to leave US after gunman targets daughters school

Victoria Smurfit has revealed she is leaving the United States after a former student threatened to open fire at her children's school.

The mum told Ray D’Arcy that she had been planning on leaving America for quite some time but this horrifying incident has proved to the mum that it is time to move.

She explained that her daughter Evie texted her to say their school was in lock-down.

It is believed a student, who had been expelled, threatened to shoot everyone after having an argument with someone.

The mum said: “I just said ‘is it real?’ She said yes, and all I could do in the most helpless moment ever was say ‘hide baby, hide’ and for an hour I didn’t know what on earth was happening and both girls were in the school. You can’t contact them, you can’t call the school, because the phone lines are locked down.”

“There is a terrible helplessness. I don’t wish it on anybody,” she added.

Victoria shared that incidents like this become part of everyday life in the US. The actress shared: “Part of living at home is you’re going to get wet, you’ll play rugby and you’re going to get muddy, and part of it here is they learn to do shooter drills. It’s just something they do because it’s real here whether you like it or not.”

This is one of the many reasons the Once Upon a Time star has decided to move to the UK with her family.

“It’s just time really, the kids are getting older and we miss our family, we just really miss family. but having a gunman outside your kids school is the icing on the cake really.” the mum added.
