With plenty of research under their belt and numerous conversations with other mums, many mums-to-be feel like know what to expect when it comes to a newborn. But, actually, there is a lot that people don't like to mention usually so as not to put you off...

The washing never stops

Baby poop and baby sick mean that your washing machine will constantly be on. And your monthly grocery shop will feature a giant box of washing powder. Every. Single. Time.

The crying can be relentless

Seriously, even though they are only tiny, little things, boy, can babies cry. Like really, really loudly. Whether they are tried, in pain, hungry, dirty, happy or sad there is nothing quite as heart wrenching as listening to this tiny infant cry. And nothing more headache-inducing...

Your crying can be relentless

You will cry. A lot. Whether it’s your hormones, your complete exhaustion or you simply need a good sob, don’t be surprised if you find yourself get teary over the slightest thing.

Your back will hurt

Your back is going to hurt a lot. From the labour experience, constantly lifting baby and car seat or baby in car seat, you will definitely feel a twinge.

Actually your whole body will hurt

Come to think of it your whole body is going to hurt: your breasts will be sore and tender, your tummy will be sore and tender and if you had any stitches or operations, yes you guessed it, it’ll be sore and tender.

Your home will go down hill

You’ll do the basics like wipe down counters – sure you need to be someway hygienic - but the washing will pile up, you’ll struggle to see out your windows and the vacuum cleaner will lay idle for a good few weeks. And whether you are blind to it or are simply ignoring it, you really won’t care.

You won’t want to socialise

You are probably dreaming of the day you can sit back and relax with a glass of wine but when you finally can, you won’t want to. Sure why head out when you can go to bed... Oh sleep.

You’ll hide from visitors

Nobody is going to admit it, but after the tenth visitor comes to your door looking for a cuddle with baby you’ll find yourself closing your curtains or staying upstairs, hiding.
