This much-loved soap star delighted fans and supporters earlier this year when he revealed he was adding to his brood with a hilarious social media announcement.

Having admitted that the months leading up to the recent announcement had been particularly stressful, Coronation Street star, Simon Gregson, and his wife, Emma, decided to sit down with OK! magazine to chat about their big news.

In addition to revealing that they would be welcoming a third son into the life they share together, the couple also explained that they had initially been expecting twins, but were devastated to learn they had lost one of the babies.

Elaborating on the tragic news, Emma said: "We found out that it was twins – they were two eggs in different sacs. We had to keep going back to the unit, but sadly only one of the twins survived."

According to the publication, Emma, who wed Simon in 2010, turned to her husband for support while recalling the heartbreaking period in her nine-month journey, saying: "We're very lucky to have this one, aren't we?"

Agreeing with his wife, the couple, who had been hoping to add to their brood for some time, went on to explain that Emma has been experiencing some ill health in the first stage of her pregnancy, explaining: "It was pretty early on - around four weeks. I just didn't feel at all well."

Recalling the moment they learned they were due to become parents for the third time, the 40-year-old actor revealed: "We've already been there twice so we sort of knew the signals. The test was just confirming what we already knew."

Wishing the couple and their two sons all the best on the rest of their journey.
